Sr. HR Manager | Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research | Emeryville, CA
The incumbent is responsible for managing a variety of human resource
functions including
independently providing advice and guidance to managers and employees on
Human Resources programs, policies and processes. Responsibilities to
include:
- Build relationships with senior managers and provide counsel that will
ultimately improve the hiring, retention and development of employees.
- Represent the balance needed between the best principles or long term
people management with the needs and priorities of the business unit.
- Build relationships that will facilitate the involvement of human
resources in the decision making process and represents HR policies and
corporate values in the business setting.
- Advise and counsel in problematic and challenging situations; coach
and/or mediate with employees and managers proactively as well as
reactively, using other HR, Law and senior line management resources as
appropriate.
- Provide feedback to corporate HR on the business unit needs and
priorities to assist with improving process and/or programs. *
- Analyze information and reports to assess effectiveness of HR
practices and actions.
- Look for opportunities to improve programs and provide training that
will yield better performance or results.
- Monitor employee morale and provides input or solutions for making a
positive change.
- Act as employee advocate and escalate issues in a timely fashion via
confidential or management ranks when needed.
- Support the implementation and administration of all HR programs.
Provide counsel to managers on effective recruiting strategies/
techniques and implementation.
- Assist in implementation of compensation and staffing programs.
- Perform investigation of employee relations matters.
- Ensure proper performance management documentation is prepared.
- Facilitate employee/manager meetings and group meetings.
- Act as change management resource for re-engineering, outsourcing,
reorganizations, etc.
- Lead or assist in special projects as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's Degree and 10 years experience working as a
HR Generalist in a medium to large global organization.
- Broad knowledge in compensation, employee relations, training and
development, staffing, EEO/Affirmative Action, etc.
- Biotech/Pharma experience desired.
- Ability to diplomatically and effectively communicate with all levels
of employees.
- Excellent customer service and presentation skills.
- Thorough knowledge of federal, state, and local laws affecting HR
activities.
- Excellent facilitation and conflict resolution skills.
